Sharlitta Nipper, one of Senior Planet from AARP’s Montgomery County based trainers, has 16 years of experience as a trainer in the IT field, primarily working with federal clients. Now she’s tapping what gives her purpose: working with Senior Planet participants to pursue their purpose via technology.

Outside of work, Sharlitta enjoys yoga, trying new food, nature walks, and spending time with her family.

What are some of your favorite things about being a trainer?

I enjoy the looks on participants faces when they understand the concepts. I also enjoy knowing that my training helps others effectively perform their jobs and/or helps to improve someone’s quality of life.

What led you down the path to becoming a Senior Planet trainer?

I was looking for a part time job that was fulfilling. Working in the federal sector can be draining and I don’t always feel like what I do makes a difference. Training at Senior Planet is different because the participants want to be present, and they are eager to learn. Knowing that gives me a sense of purpose.

Why is encouraging class participants to ask questions an important part of your teaching ethos?

I always encourage my class to ask questions. Communicating when you do not understand something helps the trainer know where to adjust and improve on delivery. It is also important to ask questions because we want you to walk out of class confident in the learning objectives that were taught.

What does aging with attitude mean to you?

Aging with attitude means to continuing to live each day to the fullest and knowing that each day is an opportunity to learn, grow, and expand. As long as we are living, we all have a purpose, and aging with attitude means we do not lose sight of our purpose on this planet regardless of our age. We continue to give our best and expect the best of life each and every day!
